How Much Does a 10kW Solar Battery Cost in Melbourne?
ADS Solar advertises selected solar battery packages starting from $5,999*. For a battery with approximately 10kWh of storage, the installed price depends on the model, usable capacity, inverter compatibility, backup functionality and electrical work. A new 10kW solar panel system with battery storage is a separate, larger purchase.
Many homeowners use the term 10kW solar battery when they mean either a 10kWh battery or a 10kW solar system paired with a battery. These are not interchangeable. Confirm which configuration you need before comparing quotes.
For a fair comparison, request a written quote showing the battery model and capacity, inverter or gateway, backup capability, labour, electrical upgrades, GST and any incentives applied.
10kW vs 10kWh: Which System Are You Buying?
10kW solar system
A 10-kilowatt solar array describes its rated power generation capacity. It does not tell you how much energy is stored for use at night.
Explore 10kW solar system information.
10kWh solar battery
A 10-kilowatt-hour battery describes energy storage capacity. Its usable energy and continuous power output depend on the model.
For example, a 10kWh usable battery could theoretically supply a steady 1kW load for about 10 hours before accounting for losses and operating limits.
A 10kW solar array can be paired with a 10kWh, 13.5kWh, 15kWh or 20kWh battery where the system design and equipment allow.

Anker SOLIX X1 Solar Battery for Melbourne Homes
The Anker SOLIX X1 is a modular residential energy storage option. A suitable configuration can help store excess daytime solar production for use during the evening, subject to the battery and inverter design.
When comparing Anker configurations, check usable capacity, output power, monitoring, backup hardware and future expansion compatibility. Do not compare an entry-level advertised battery price with a larger 10kWh configuration without checking the included modules.

Is a 10kWh Battery Big Enough for a Melbourne Home?
A battery around 10kWh may be appropriate when a household has enough daytime solar surplus to charge it and sufficient evening demand to use the stored electricity. Battery sizing should start with your energy data, not simply your solar array size.
| Usable storage | Illustrative use | When to consider it |
|---|---|---|
| 5kWh | Smaller evening loads | Lower consumption or modest daytime solar surplus |
| 10kWh | Moderate evening and overnight loads | Homes regularly exporting excess solar energy |
| 13–15kWh | Higher evening demand | Larger families or greater overnight consumption |
| 20kWh+ | Extended storage requirements | High usage, electrified households or some EV charging patterns |
Practical example: If your home uses 8kWh between sunset and sunrise, a 10kWh usable battery might cover much of that consumption on a day when it charges sufficiently. If the home uses 18kWh overnight, 10kWh of storage will not cover all of it. Actual performance is affected by conversion losses, reserve settings and battery output limits.
10kW Solar System With Battery Price in Melbourne
A complete solar-and-battery package is not the same as adding storage to existing panels. A new installation can include a 10kW solar array, inverter or hybrid inverter, battery modules, monitoring, mounting, cabling, protection equipment and commissioning.
New solar + battery
Design panels, inverter and storage together to suit the roof, switchboard and electricity usage.
Battery retrofit
Assess whether existing panels and the current inverter can support the proposed storage architecture.
Battery with backup
Include any required gateway, switching equipment and dedicated essential-load circuits in the quote.

What Changes the Installed Solar Battery Price in Melbourne?
Battery model and capacity
Module count, usable storage, continuous power and brand affect hardware cost.
Existing inverter
A retrofit may need a new hybrid inverter or an alternative approved connection arrangement.
Switchboard and cabling
Older switchboards, longer cable routes and additional electrical protection can add cost.
Blackout backup
Essential-load backup or broader backup capability may need additional equipment and design.
Single- or three-phase
Equipment and phase arrangements must suit the property’s electrical supply.
Installation location
Battery mounting, ventilation, clearances and access must meet applicable requirements.
How Much Could a 10kWh Solar Battery Save in Melbourne?
Battery savings depend on how much stored electricity replaces grid purchases, the feed-in credit forgone by storing solar instead of exporting it, charging losses and the home’s electricity tariff.
Illustrative daily savings calculation
Assume a battery delivers 7kWh of stored solar to household loads in one day. If grid electricity would otherwise cost 30 cents/kWh and the exported solar would have earned 5 cents/kWh, the simplified gross energy-value difference is approximately $1.75 for that day (7 × $0.25), before allowing for conversion losses, battery degradation, demand charges or other tariff effects.
At that exact utilisation every day, this simplified example equals about $639 per year. It is not a prediction of an actual Melbourne home’s savings.
Melbourne’s winter daylight, rooftop orientation, shading, daytime usage and tariff structure all affect how often a battery can charge and discharge. A meaningful payback assessment should use 12 months of bills or interval-meter data where available.
Solar Battery Rebates and Incentives in Victoria
Available Commonwealth and Victorian energy programs can affect the net installed price, but scheme rules, eligibility and incentive values change. Some offers may already factor an incentive into the advertised starting price.
Before signing a contract, confirm the current program, product eligibility, accredited installation requirements, whether the quote is before or after incentives, and whether any other offer can be combined. For official guidance, consult Solar Victoria and the Clean Energy Regulator.
This page does not assume that a particular rebate applies to every Melbourne household in October 2026.
Will a 10kWh Battery Run My Home During a Blackout?
Not automatically. Some batteries support backup power, but a backup-ready design may require a compatible inverter, gateway, changeover equipment and dedicated circuits. The amount of power available at any moment is measured in kW, while how long it lasts depends on stored energy in kWh.
For example, a battery supplying an average 500W of essential loads uses approximately 0.5kWh per hour. A 10kWh usable battery could theoretically supply that load for about 20 hours before losses and reserve settings; high-power appliances could reduce the duration substantially.
Tell ADS Solar whether you want to keep lighting, refrigeration, internet, heating, pumps or other appliances operating during outages so the design can be assessed correctly.
Can You Add a 10kWh Battery to Existing Solar Panels?
Many existing Melbourne solar systems can be upgraded with battery storage. Compatibility depends on the solar inverter, electrical configuration, grid connection conditions, battery architecture and physical installation location.
- Review usage: examine electricity bills, exports and evening demand.
- Check equipment: record your solar inverter model, panel capacity and switchboard configuration.
- Select storage: choose usable kWh, output kW, warranty and backup requirements.
- Confirm design: assess mounting clearances, grid requirements and any electrical upgrades.
- Install and commission: use appropriately accredited installers and set up monitoring.

early days and I’ve gotta admit there was a bit of fluffing around, and I was bombarded by all and sundry, so felt a little bit disjointed in the sales process, but the pricing was incredible Tushar and his were more than helpful and the installers were fantastic. I was a it’ll nervous paying the day before the installation, but checked all my boxes and allow that to happen. There were a few things in the quote and layout that they got wrong, but we corrected those on the day so have someone handy but it’s now in an operating. 42 kW battery 10 kW of panels 12,000 W inverter for about $7K less than the closest competitors same spec. Anyway, early days I’m gonna to post as I go but so far I’m saving money according to the system app!Posted on Google![]()
