How much does a Sungrow SBH battery cost?
The Sungrow SBH battery price in Australia depends on the selected storage capacity and the equipment needed to install it at your property. A battery added to a suitable hybrid inverter has a different installation scope from a complete solar, inverter and battery upgrade.
For a useful comparison, request the complete installed price, including the battery modules, required control components, compatible inverter where needed, electrical work and commissioning. A low advertised battery-only price may exclude significant parts of the finished system.
| Model | Usable energy* | 5kWh modules | Installed price |

What is the Sungrow SBH battery?
The SBH is a high-voltage lithium iron phosphate battery range with stackable 5kWh modules. A single tower can contain two to eight modules, providing configurations from 10kWh to 40kWh.
In a compatible solar and battery system, storage can retain surplus solar generation for later use. This can help reduce evening grid purchases when the battery has sufficient charge.
The battery’s kWh capacity describes stored energy. Your system’s kW output describes how much power it can supply at one time. Both matter when selecting equipment for air conditioning, cooking or other large loads.

What changes the installed price?
Battery capacity
More modules increase storage and equipment cost. Size the battery around usable daily surplus and overnight demand rather than choosing the largest tower by default.
Inverter compatibility
Your existing inverter’s exact model, firmware and permitted battery configuration need checking. Some installations require a compatible hybrid inverter or a redesigned system.
Backup requirements
Specify which circuits should operate during an outage. Backup design, load limits and any required electrical equipment affect the final scope.
Installation location
Cable routes, access, mounting arrangements and protection requirements vary between properties. A site assessment helps identify these costs before installation.
Switchboard work
Metering, protection devices and switchboard alterations may be required. Ask for these items to be identified in your proposal.
Package inclusions
Compare GST, delivery, installation, commissioning and warranty documentation. Any incentive should be shown separately with its eligibility conditions.
Is a 20kWh or 30kWh Sungrow battery right for you?
SBH200: 20kWh storage
A 20kWh configuration may suit a property with substantial evening consumption and enough surplus generation to charge it regularly. It is worth assessing where a smaller battery would frequently run out before morning.
Check interval electricity data, winter solar production and the reserve you want to retain for outages before deciding.
SBH300: 30kWh storage
A 30kWh configuration may suit higher overnight demand or a larger solar installation. Its additional storage is useful only when your charging opportunities and electricity use support it.
EV charging, electric heating and large household loads should be assessed individually against inverter power and daily energy demand.
Installing panels as well? Compare our 6.6kW solar systems, 10kW solar systems and 13kW solar systems. Panel size alone does not determine the right battery capacity.
Can SBH work with your existing solar?
Compatibility must be checked before a battery is added. Having a Sungrow inverter does not automatically mean that every SBH configuration can connect to it.
- Provide a clear photo of your inverter model label.
- Confirm whether your property has single-phase or three-phase supply.
- Share the size and approximate age of your solar installation.
- Identify the circuits you would like to back up.

Will it work during a blackout?
Backup operation depends on the compatible inverter, electrical design, supported loads and battery charge. Installing a battery does not automatically provide unrestricted whole-home backup.
Ask your quote to identify the backed-up circuits, available power and reserve settings. Large appliances may exceed the backup system’s output, even when plenty of stored energy remains.
For business requirements, explore commercial battery storage and commercial solar.
Will a Sungrow SBH battery reduce your bills?
A battery can reduce grid imports by supplying stored electricity when your home needs it. Actual savings depend on electricity tariffs, solar surplus, charging losses, battery use and any value you give up by storing solar instead of exporting it.
A meaningful estimate should compare your current usage with a proposed operating schedule. Ask for the assumptions behind any savings or payback calculation, including seasonal variation and ongoing charges. A fixed savings percentage cannot describe every household.
What about battery incentives?
Ask for any applicable incentive to be checked for your location, installation date and selected equipment. Your written quote should identify the total system cost, the incentive applied and the amount you pay. Do not assume that every property or battery configuration qualifies.

Sungrow SBH battery FAQs
What is the Sungrow SBH200 battery capacity?
The SBH200 has 20kWh of manufacturer-rated usable energy using four 5kWh modules. Delivered AC energy varies with system losses and operating settings.
What is the Sungrow SBH300 battery capacity?
The SBH300 uses six 5kWh modules for 30kWh of manufacturer-rated usable energy. It should be quoted using the full SBH300 model designation.
How much is a Sungrow SBH battery installed?
Request a current quote for the exact capacity and installation scope. Inverter changes, backup circuits, cabling and switchboard work can materially affect the installed price.
Can I increase the storage capacity later?
The SBH range is modular, but an expansion must meet Sungrow’s current compatibility and installation requirements. Confirm module versions, inverter limits and expansion conditions before relying on a future upgrade.
Does a Sungrow battery work with any solar inverter?
No. The exact inverter and battery combination must be supported. Your installer should verify the selected model, firmware and module count before installation.
How long will a 20kWh battery power my home?
Runtime depends on the connected load, starting charge, reserve setting and losses. Heating, cooking and EV charging can use stored energy much faster than lighting and refrigeration. Request an estimate for your actual backup circuits.
What warranty comes with the battery?
Ask for the current Australian warranty document for the supplied SBH model. Review the coverage period, performance conditions, exclusions and claim process, along with the installer’s separate workmanship warranty.
Can I install it outdoors?
The proposed location must meet the selected model’s environmental limits and installation instructions. Your installer should assess exposure, clearances, access and any protective measures required at the site.
Is SBH suitable for an off-grid home?
A grid-connected battery package should not be assumed suitable for permanent off-grid operation. Discuss your application so inverter capability, charging sources and system design can be assessed separately.
