Two different ways eligible NSW homes may benefit
The federal installation discount and NSW VPP incentive serve different purposes. Your eligibility needs to be checked separately for each.
Federal battery installation discount
The Cheaper Home Batteries Program supports qualifying batteries connected to new or existing solar. Assigning eligible small-scale technology certificates (STCs) to a registered agent can reduce the purchase price.
Your actual discount is calculated for your system. It depends on eligible usable capacity, the installation date and certificate value; it is not a guaranteed percentage of every quote.
NSW virtual power plant incentive
A separate incentive may be available for connecting an eligible battery to a participating VPP. This can be combined with the federal discount when both programs’ requirements are met.
Provider terms and payments vary. Compare battery access, electricity tariffs, contract length and exit conditions before joining.

These percentages apply to the certificate calculation within each band, not to the purchase price. A larger battery does not receive the full factor across its entire capacity.

Capacities are comparison categories; actual nominal and usable capacities vary by model. Pricing depends on equipment, site conditions, backup hardware, electrical upgrades and eligible incentives. Your written quote confirms the total price, GST and inclusions.

Federal eligibility essentials
Qualifying systems must meet current equipment, solar connection and installation requirements, including approved products and an appropriately accredited installer. Previous battery claims can affect eligibility.
VPP participation is a separate choice
Being VPP-capable does not mean your household must join a VPP to access the federal discount. Receiving the NSW VPP incentive does require a qualifying participation arrangement.

NSW battery rebate FAQs
How much will I save with the battery rebate?
There is no single amount for every installation. The federal discount depends on eligible capacity, installation timing and certificate value. Your quotation should show the discount used and the remaining amount payable.
Can I add a battery to my existing solar system?
Often, yes, subject to compatibility and site assessment. Your inverter, supply configuration and installation requirements determine the available options and whether additional equipment is needed.
Do I need solar panels to receive the federal battery discount?
Yes. An eligible battery must be connected to a qualifying new or existing solar PV system. If you do not have solar, ask about a combined solar and battery installation.
Can I combine the federal discount with the NSW VPP incentive?
Yes, if you meet the requirements of both programs. VPP payments and contract conditions vary, so compare the provider’s complete offer before signing.
Is a 30kWh battery eligible for the NSW VPP incentive?
It may be. From 1 July 2026 the eligible battery size limit increased to 50kWh. The payment calculation is capped at 28kWh of capacity made available to the grid. The provider must confirm eligibility, battery compatibility and its offer.
Will a battery eliminate my electricity bills?
That cannot be guaranteed. Savings depend on consumption, solar production, tariffs, battery performance and how the system is used. Grid supply charges and other electricity costs may still apply.
Will my battery power my home during a blackout?
Only if suitable backup capability is included in the design. Tell us which appliances or circuits you want to support so the quote can account for the required equipment and power output.
Is this a government rebate application form?
No. This is an ADS Solar enquiry for a battery installation quote. Program eligibility, incentive paperwork and any VPP agreement are separate from submitting this form.
Why is there no single installed price for every home?
The battery model, inverter, electrical work, installation location and backup requirements change the cost. A tailored quote lets you compare the total price and inclusions for your property.
